It is time again for the NC State Fair Demo Derby! Please do NOT forward this outside the club. Only club members can use their vehicles to tow the derby cars.
For anyone who is a new club member, CNC gets to park at the Demo Derby sign-up area on Trinity Road and then we drive our 4×4’s into the Fair and park on the dirt by the arena by the grandstands. This also gives you access to the Fair before the derby starts and after if you want to go get some food, etc.
The gist of what we do: We drag the dead/damaged cars out of the derby arena after each heat, and then after all the heats for that session we drag the cars out to their trailers on Trinity Road (see below for more info).
It is fun, some publicity for the club, and we get money for the club from the State Fair that we use to pay for camping, food and events throughout the year for CNC Members.
Respond to this thread with which date(s) you would like to work. As always, because of space constraints, we can only have a maximum of 7 vehicles per session, with a maximum of 2 people per vehicle, one person to drive and the other person to hook up the derby car. Everyone signing up must work. When signing up, post which specific date(s) you will attend and if you are bringing a helper with you (maximum 2 people per vehicle).
The RULES:
**No one under 18 years of age allowed to help tow or be in the pits.
**We need at least 5 vehicles per time slot.
**You must arrive AT LEAST 60 minutes before these times to be guaranteed
entry. They close registration outside the gates 30 min before show time, and after that there is nothing I can do to get you in.**Note – if you attend, you need to stay and help after the derby ends until I or whoever is in charge of that session tells you it is ok to leave (DO NOT just leave).
**We can only pull cars out through the fair to the Trinity Road parking area that have 4 inflated tires, can steer, and have brakes. This has meant less cars for us to tow out. Other cars have to stay in the derby staging area until the event is over and then bring their trailers in to pick up their cars after we have towed the others out.
***Only 4WD vehicles that will be towing are allowed to park inside the derby staging area. Any others (like if your co-tow’er/passenger meets you at the fair) have to park in the derby pit area by Trinity Road (still free parking).
****Because of safety concerns by the club, the fair and derby officials, there is no room for people to cut-up or drive carelessly. Do not be rude to the fair officials or police. Do not get into an altercation with the fair traffic. Do not drive at unsafe speeds (put your vehicle into 4 low). Do not “show off” in your vehicle, like donuts or backfiring. Do not go with your own idea about how we should park the damaged cars, don’t get impatient, etc – we have to be a coordinated group to make this work. If you have any questions, come see me or the person in charge of that session. If you get out of hand, you will be removed from the fair by the officials and not allowed to return. (Yes, we have had this happen before.)
You should bring:
–your 4WD vehicle (You do NOT need a hard-core rig to do this. Any 4×4 will work, even a stock Jeep, Xterra, etc)
–secure REAR tow point (can’t tow using the front)
–a tow-strap
–a means to hook the strap to the derby vehicles, like a choker chain, a
J-hook, etc. We don’t have time to take the strap off your vehicle each
time, loop it through itself around the bumper of a derby car, re-attach to
your vehicle, etc.
–gloves
–shoes you don’t mind getting muddy–sometimes a maul and/or a pry bar comes in handy to get your hook off of the vehicle you are towing
****If you are thinking about trailering your rig, you will have to park your truck and trailer outside the gates in the derby pit area beside Trinity Rd.
What you get:
–free admission to the derby and to the fair for you and a passenger
–free parking
–a ring-side seat to the derby action
–fun dragging around derby carsThank you
