Its time to think about having another testing session. We have a bun h of new members and several other members who have indicated that they would like to obtain their ham radio license. Jim Smith is local coordinator and is willing again to administer the test. For those who dont know, there are 3 licenses one can get but the one that can be most useful to a new member is the technician class license. This allows you to operate on 2m and 70cm, which are what some of us will run on the trails in conjunction with CB. The study for technician is not overly difficult, spend an hour or two reading the material and then take the practice exams, which are free and you will be ready. Jim charges $10 to take the exam and so far, we have a 100% session pass rate.
If interested, post here, as long as we can get a minimum of 3-5 members, we will hold a session. Looking for sometime in the October time frame so you have plenty of time to learn what’s needed.
I can point you to several resources to study. Just ask.
Ham radio is a great hobby that you can talk around the world on
It’s also not real expensive to start off in. A $30 radio will get you going. 2m and 70cm are FM frequencies that you can run higher power than CB (that $30 handheld is an 8w radio) and there is less static than CB.
Again post up here if interested.
